"Right" tire size, but store says they wont fit my car?

First time posting here, so if I have erred, forgive me (and kindly point me in the right direction?).
I purchased new tires less than two weeks ago for my 2005 BMW 325i, sport package. This was my first time getting tires for it in the five years I've owed it, so after going to our local tire shop, I ended up buying these Goodyear tires. Of course, I checked prices online, but not the fit, because they were the "right" size.
Lo and behold, they're 225/45zr17, and other than learning the z is an additional speed rating, I can't find further information. My concern has risen due to the goodyear site telling me these tires aren't actually a fit for my car, despite being the same size (225/45r17).
Could anybody shine further light on this? Should I be concerned?

As winter quickly approaches, I'm in desperate need for all brand new tires. The size is 225/50ZR17. I live in Ohio, so the roads can get pretty slippery during the winter months. I'm looking for a tire that will keep me safe while commuting to work and school during snowfalls. Preferably nothing more expensive than $130 a piece. What tires do you/have you had and are there any you would recommend or advise against?
