The Basics of Pharma Sterile Processing?
-
The Pharma Sterile Processing Summit Department, often known as “Central Supply” or “Sterile Supply,” is the service inside the hospital that cleans, prepares, processes, stores, and issues sterile and non-sterile medical/surgical supplies and equipment for patient treatment.
As centralized the number and types of surgical procedures increased, as did the number and types of medical instruments, equipment, and supplies, it became clear that centralized processing was required for efficiency, economy, and patient safety.
The Function of Sterile Processing
Remediation, assembly and sterile processing, sterile storage, and distribution are often split into four key categories in sterile processing departments.
Reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies are cleaned and decontaminated in the decontamination section using human or mechanical cleaning procedures as well as chemical disinfection.
The assembly and packing section receives clean products from the decontamination area, which are then assembled and readied for the issue, storage, or further processing.
Items are transferred to the sterile storage room after assembly or sterilization until they are ready to be issued.
Case cart preparation and delivery; exchange cart inventory, replenishment, and delivery; telephone order and requisition order fulfilment; and, on occasion, patient care equipment delivery are all performed in the distribution area.
