Essay Writing Can Be Fun
Truthfully, I was a terrible essay writer throughout high school and college.
Sometimes I'd write a great essay every once in awhile, but most of the time I got by with A's and B-minuses.
It is boring to write an essay. I also know how difficult it can be.
But, towards the end of my student years, I had a breakthrough. I was able to write great essays and have fun doing it.
How difficult is it to write an essay?
Many students put off essay writing. They find it hard to write coherent sentences that are fair on the subject.
These are some reasons:
-
Facebook scrolling is more fun than scrolling through it
-
list itemYour professor or teacher will appreciate what you're writing.
-
list itemInstead of writing good content, you're trying to get an "A" instead of writing it.
-
list itemYou want to do as little work as possible
-
list itemWriting essays is difficult because we focus too much on external rewards, such as passing grades, getting our teacher's approval or avoiding being accused of plagiarism.
Writing becomes much more difficult when you place too much emphasis on external approval.
Why?
You can't focus on your external approval and you will shut down your subconscious. Your subconscious is where you find your creativity.
Your subconscious is your source of creativity.
This means that if you try to write a perfect sentence that is A-plus worthy, you are wasting most of your writing resources.
Stop trying to write a good essay. So stop trying to write a great essay or a good enough essay. Write an interesting essay. Make it fascinating. When you are done, edit it to make sure it meets the teacher's requirements.
You must follow the instructions in your assignment. Write a five paragraph essay if your teacher asks. Write a research essay, an argument essay, or analysis essay if your teacher asks you to write it.
These guidelines should not limit your freedom to express yourself.
Although I cannot guarantee that you will get a better grade, I can promise that you will have more fun writing.

1. Remember that your essay is only a story.
Every story has conflict and change. But essays can also be about conflict or change. An essay is about conflict between ideas. The change is in how we perceive them.
This means that the best essays are about surprise.
How can you tell what story you are telling? This prompt should help you determine what story to tell.
There are many topics and tasks that can be associated with any list of essay prompts. These topics include characters, historical, fictional, and topical, who are faced with difficult decisions. Your job is to help them make those difficult choices. This can be done by analysing them, discussing them, researching them or simply describing them.
2. Before you begin writing, think about how to have the most fun.
Writing an academic essay can be difficult. As a writer, I often feel dismotivated. To motivate myself, I use a super-ninja, Japanese judo-mind trick.
The secret to Your subconscious will answer all your questions. If you are feeling unmotivated to write an essay, try this question:
"How much fun could I have writing this?"
Your subconscious will instantly start to think of ways to make writing more enjoyable.
The first draft is where you can have the most fun. The first draft allows you to be creative, even a little bit scandalous, while brainstorming about the topic. These are some crazy ideas to make your next essay more entertaining:
Find the most shocking or bizarre fact about your topic and use it to hook.
To find key words in the topic, use a thesaurus. Write as many synonyms as possible, and get wild with your vocabulary.
You can play devil's advocate by taking the moral or opposing side of the matter. As you write, you will see where the discussion takes your writing.
3. Ask yourself: "What surprise me about this subject?"
When writing essays, the temptation is to write only what your professor or teacher wants.
This is a terrible idea.
Instead, ask yourself: "What am I interested in about this subject?" What surprise me?
You won't find anything that surprises or interests you if you don't know how to do it. Science, literature, and history are filled with surprises. If you take a look at the amazing ideas that actually do come to pass, you will see the theme is "We used think the world was like this." We discovered that we were wrong and the world is very different than we imagined.
These bits of unexpected information can often be used to create the best topic sentences. These ideas can be used to structure your essay. Then, build your body paragraphs around each idea or fact. These can be used as hooks to help you transition between topics.
