In the last year or so, I've noticed a lot of people asking this question:

"How do I know if my girlfriend is cheating on me?"

There are many different ways to know if your girlfriend is cheating on you. The thing is, every time someone asks me, "How do I know if my girlfriend is cheating on me?" they're looking for the easy way out of their problems or they want to say something they don't want to admit to themselves because it seems too personal, embarrassing or difficult... But they can't bring themselves to admit it because they think there's some magic test that will tell you when your girlfriend is cheating on you or something (finally, admitting "it's just sex" sounds like an excuse).

The truth is, it doesn't matter how you determine when your girlfriend is cheating on you - what matters is how well you do it. How well do you catch her in the act? How well do you arrest her? How well do you get the evidence? Yes, there are ways to know if your girlfriend cheated on you, but there really are no magic tests for cheating. And even if there were, everyone will use them in their own way, so most of them will fail at least a few times (and sometimes fail completely).

So why should anyone care about what testing might reveal after all when a person wants to change, it's unclear exactly what they want to do.

Most of us are at least vaguely aware that spouses may be cheating on us, but how do we know?

We all know someone who has been cheated on. We might not have suspected it in the way we suspect a workplace colleague of having been stolen by a junior (or worse). But there are many ways to tell if someone is cheating on you:

● If they’re no longer telling you what’s going on.
● If they’re living without you, or too far away from you.
● If they seem to have gotten away with something nefarious.
● If their home life has changed dramatically and for the worse, e.g., food left unattended in the fridge or dishes not washed for hours at a time.

In this post, I’d like to discuss some of the signs of infidelity that could indicate that your spouse is having an affair: changes in communication, appearance and hobbies, attitude changes and lying and avoidance. I also want to shed some light on how these behaviours can be helpful or harmful depending on how they affect your relationship with him or her. And finally, I want to address why we think these particular kinds of behaviours are more helpful than others; why they are more likely to be seen as “cheating” than other kinds; and what steps can be taken to help our partners avoid them if they do happen but still think it will work out (and why my partner and I don’t think that works).
